Betfair punters are able to diversify their betting with the Betfair Starting Price Index. Instead of simply Backing & Laying runners in a race, traders can Back & Lay on the BSP Index Market allowing them to take a position on the aggregate BSP value of all winners.
What is a ‘Betfair Starting Price Index’?
A BSP Index is the aggregate value of the BSP (Betfair Starting Price) of all winners over a pre-determined number of races. For example, the BSP Index at a 9 Race Card at Flemington would be the combined number of all 9 BSP winner prices after the end of the last race.

OVER 113.5 – “Derby Day is normally a friendly start to the Flemington carnival for punters, but this year has more legitimate chances at odds than i’ve seen in the past several years. Race 2, Race 4 and Race 8 provide us with the best chances of a blowout for the day, while Races 6 and 3 should provide us with a double figure winner. There aren’t many ‘sure things’ in single figures today and there are only two races where i’m able to lock in a single figure winner into my predictions.”

UNDER 113.5 – “Hey Doc will be hard to beat if he can find an easy lead but no doubt he’ll be the hunted. Bezel and Comin’ Through look the big X-factor runners. Tiamo Grace was luckless in the Ethereal, she can take the next step and win the Wakeful. Outside Sheidel a knockout runner is likely in race three. Keen to oppose Real Love in the Lexus but I can’t see an upset in the Coolmore Stud. Star Turn slightly ahead of Extreme Choice and Astern without a huge deal of confidence. Will be laying First Seal who had every favour last start. Sacred Elixir looks a standout in the Derby with Beach Life the ‘smokey’. The Cantala Stakes is almost impossible, I have a small lean to Mackintosh, Good Project & Thunder Fantasy all at double figure odds. In the last I’ve marked Keen Array favourite with Durendal the value runner.”

OVER 113.5 – “Historically there’s always a roughie or two land on Derby Day with whispers of friends of friends getting super-sized quaddies! Nine quality races today. Race 1 could see a result with numbers 9 & 11 value for me, race 2 looks skinny in what generally is an oaks trial, race 3 is a big field which could see a smokey, race 4 is definitely a skinny and so is race 5 (race in 3? Sensational 3 yo). The Myer Classic is very open with all the favoured horses mapping back in the run. I think fav is well found in Derby and with a runner at >$10 very possible. Race 8 is skinny but still $6 the field which will add something if the Index is not already done. Smaller field even field in the last with the toppy being value. The overs for me today, give it strength!”
