BSP Index

Betfair punters are able to diversify their betting with the Betfair Starting Price Index. Instead of simply Backing & Laying runners in a race, traders can Back & Lay on the BSP Index Market allowing them to take a position on the aggregate BSP value of all winners.

What is a ‘Betfair Starting Price Index’?

A BSP Index is the aggregate value of the BSP (Betfair Starting Price) of all winners over a pre-determined number of races. For example, the BSP Index at a 9 Race Card at Flemington would be the combined number of all 9 BSP winner prices after the end of the last race.

Tips From The Experts

UNDER 86.5: “The rail returns to the true for a beautiful day of racing at Caulfield on a Good surface. I’ll be looking for the best horses positioned in the front half of the field all day and this will provide us with winners under $10 in the majority of races. There are only a handful of blowout chances throughout the card and assuming we can avoid running into one of those, the unders looks a fairly safe play overall, with my expected BSP sitting well below the set line.”

UNDER 86.5– “A tricky race to open the day with Take Pride leading softly but will look vulnerable late against the classy Super Cash, Jalan Jalan & Magic Alibi. Race two is a typical stayers raffle which I’m keen to avoid. Royal Rapture looks close to a ‘good thing’ in race three and Pay Up Bro only has to handle the step up to 2000m to be hard to beat. Ayers Rock looks capable of producing an upset at $21. The 1000 Guineas Prelude looks difficult with tempo holding the key. Respecting the Kiwi filly and Sebring Dream as the value bets. Confident Saracino and Archives will fight out the finish in the colts edition of the prelude. I’ve marked Bon Aurum favourite in the Sir Rupert Clarke with Thames Court the blowout runner. Xtravagant is a 1400m specialist and is the improver. Hard to see a winner from outside the market though. Lucia Valentina might have a class edge over Awesome Rock, Black Heart Bart look a mile under the odds out to 1800m. In the last race Inz’n’out looks hardest to beat, but beyond him a blowout result is possible. With the rail back to true I’m expecting another tough day for the bookies.”

UNDER 86.5: “Looks another Saturday thin on results.  Last week’s line was blown out in one race which just happened to be the last which would’ve been a traders delight! Small fields early in the program with winning chances looking to be in single figures should see the unders line shorten.  I’m happy to take on Whispering Rock in Race 5 with this race possible of throwing a result. Races 6 is an even race but still unlikely to throw that blowout result.  From trading perspective back the unders early and trade from there.”
