Betfair punters are able to diversify their betting with the Betfair Starting Price Index. Instead of simply Backing & Laying runners in a race, traders can Back & Lay on the BSP Index Market allowing them to take a position on the aggregate BSP value of all winners.
What is a ‘Betfair Starting Price Index’?
A BSP Index is the aggregate value of the BSP (Betfair Starting Price) of all winners over a pre-determined number of races. For example, the BSP Index at a 9 Race Card at Flemington would be the combined number of all 9 BSP winner prices after the end of the last race.

UNDER 97.5 – “The past two years Guineas Day results have been below 85 points on the BSP index. This isn’t a surprise at all, with most ‘grand final’ days being more likely to see favourites salute than normal Listed/Open race meets. This wasn’t an open and close pick for the unders this week (vulnerable favourites throughout the card) even with history being on our side and I think the line can go very close, suggesting only a minor betting edge. Rough Justice, Exclusive Lass, Miss Gunpowder, Miss Rose de Lago are my blowout chances to keep an eye on throughout the card.”

UNDER 97.5 – “Impossible to assess the Inglis Debutant Stakes, one for the thrill seekers. The Herbert Power looks between Assign, Dandy Gent and I’m wary Howard Be Thy Name who might still be one run away from his best. In The Vanguard and Hear The Chant look standouts in race three. Rageese gets the perfect set up in the Weekend Hussler, outside him it could be a blowout if Sistine Demon and Chetwood ‘cut up’ out in front. Sheidel, Secret Agenda and Ravi look to have race five at their mercy. WINX WINX WINX. In the 1000 Guineas, Foxplay rates slightly ahead of Global Glamour. The value runners are Missrock, Harlow Gold and La Luna Rossa, although all could be backed into around the $10 mark. Impending looks a standout in the Guineas. Hey Doc next best from Sacred Elixir may sprout looking for a derby trip as could Good Standing. It looks He’s Our Rokkii’s to lose in the Toorak whilst Counterattack can be forgiven if the track is not to firm. Star Turn and Fell Swoop have the best figures at 1100m and race well at Caulfield. It certainly looks another tough day for the bookies. ”

UNDER 97.5 – “Race 1 full of unknowns, Race 2 happy to risk the favourite Assign ,but not a lot of value in rest. Race 3 should be won by one of those in the market. Race 4 happy to oppose Chetwood at the short odds. Race 5 looks good race for Sheidel. Winx should be too classy. Race 7 Sydney filly’s look to be better than ours. Like Impending in guineas but blowouts chnaces to Seaburge and Hey Doc. Favourite looks hard to beat in Race 9. In the last if Star Turn doesn’t win would think Flamberge or Fell Swoop would.”
