Race 8 Melbourne Cup Prelude 12
#1 Myrniong Corner
He flew at The Meadows in his last start, recording a sizzling 29.54 in a much easier race. He went straight to the front and wasn’t pressured throughout. He faces his toughest test here against some seasoned dogs and he may not get it all his own way early. Zabdon Ferrari may cause him some grief early and Trip to Eden should be sailing across from the outside. I am banking on him getting shuffled back on the first turn.
Race 1 Melbourne Cup Prelude 18
#2 Felton Bale
He has a great record over this trip and has been in the money 10 times from 16 attempts here. Last start he competed in the Group 2 Geelong Gold Cup Final in what was a hot race on paper. He was poorly drawn and posted wide and I am happy to forget he ever went around. Trainer Blake Shillington has said previously that he needs to be drawn close to the rails so the draw looks good. If he can find a forward position going around the first turn with the likely leader being Jack Walker, he should prove too strong in the concluding stages.
