Major Players

2. Pilote D’Essai: A fantastic front running ride by Regan Bayliss saw the former French gelding Pilote D’Essai take out the Ballarat Cup. Judging by the sectionals it was advantaged to be on speed that day as Pilote D’Essai was going well above benchmark, yet was able to maintain a two-length break on his rivals. I’m willing to put a pen through the win as I believe it may be ‘overvalued’ by the market.

5. Lord Van Percy: Never a hope when 12L off the lead in the Ballarat Cup but finished off with the third best sectionals in the race. Can turn it around on the favourite as he steps up in distance here.

7. Little White Cloud: Impressive first up from a lengthy spell, Little White Cloud had no luck at Moonee Valley in the BM90 won by Boom Time. Can see him improving but first time at the distance so it’s a no for me.

10. Thunder Teddington: He finished off the BM90 won by Little White Cloud with the strongest final sectional in the race and I think he’ll be much better stepping up to 2500m on Saturday. He’s been given a nice trial between runs to stay fit and looks a real target race for the former German import.
