R4 Retravision Inter Dominion Qualifying Heat 1 | 2130m | 6:18pm
What a start to ID16 – Heat 1 sees the return of defending champion Lennytheshark. Although “Lenny” had his colours lowered last time by Bling It On, it was a huge run under the circumstances. They went 1.51.4 around Melton and he drew inside the second row: only beaten by a horse having a suck run having to sprint for 200m. Lenny has drawn wide here but Alford will go forward at some stage and outgrind them.
The early tussle between Guaranteed and Our Jimmy Johnstone will be interesting here. Guaranteed hasn’t quite come back the horse he was although all three runs this prep have been good. Last win however was nearly two years ago, so that is a concern. Jimmy is coming off a very good win in the Bunbury Cup after leading all the way from Gate 6. This horse is flying and can give cheek. Speaking of flying – Ultimate Art is a very smart NSW horse who won in the death seat at Menangle last time in an awesome 1.50.4 doing it tough outlasting the smart Lombo Kotakinabalu.
Prior to that was only beaten 7m behind Lenny. Beaudiene Boaz is one of the main local hopes for the series but his form has slipped recently being beaten as $1.70 and $1.30 favourite at past two.

R6 TABTouch Inter Dominion Qualifying Heat 2 | 2130m | 6:52pm
Arguably the weakest of the heats especially with the scratching of Ohoka Punter. Local hope Bettors Fire should get the lead here as it did when second to Beaudiene Boaz four starts ago when $1.40 favourite. Last won an M0 or better here in September. Not sure he is going that well now and happy to take it on here.
Yankee Rockstar is from the star stable of Emma Stewart – good third to Hectorjayjay last time at Bendigo when the winner came home in 54.1 giving nothing else a chance. Did win the Cranbourne and Kilmore cups in March this year (beating home Ohoka Punter and Beautide at Kilmore), so if anything near that is the one to beat here.
Champion Kiwi Smolda has drawn wide after a good fourth to Lazarus in the NZ Cup. That followed a good second at Kaikoura behind Franco Nelson. Has the right formlines to win this – just needs luck from the draw. John Of Arc and Phoenix Warrior are both going OK but don’t look classy enough to win an Inters Heat. Major Crocker performed well here last year and could surprise.
Selections – 6/9/3/7
Race Confidence: Low
|6. Yankee Rockstar||$3.85|
|3. Bettors Fire||$5.00|
|7. Major Crocker||$11.50|

R7 McInerney Ford 4yo Classic – Group 1 | 2536m | 7:18pm
Hot race with potential superstar Mr Mojito over with the All-Star Racing team of Mark Purdon. Has won 7/9 in NZ including a super win on Cup day last time. Has now won seven in a row and although drawn inside the second row, Mr Mojito should show its class here. Expect to see this horse in the big ones’ next year. Soho Tribeca is 2/2 in the West including a very good win at GP last time.
Chicago Bull is the top local hope from the strong Gary Hall Senior stable. Has won 15/25 however found Soho Tribeca too good last time. Motu Gatecrasher is a very nice Victorian who has been transferred to the Ross Olivieri stables. Won 11/20 in Vic, last time was only second though when a $1.10 favourite at Bendigo behind Bad Boy Brad (who subsequently won the Gunbower Cup). Some very nice horses are big odds here – Harry Hoo (won three in a row), Mister Daytona (an astounding record of 10/11), Galactic Star (11/22), Franco Rayner (11/33) and Vanquished (10/20). Such is the quality of Mr Mojito though in this hot field, that we must select him on top.

R8 Choices Flooring Inter Dominion Qualifying Heat 3 | 2130m | 7:48pm
The equal favourite for the series Hectorjayjay goes around here and haven’t we been waiting for this. Hector on a small track, the locals won’t have seen speed like this since the champion Imthemightyquinn. He has blinding gate speed if needed but drawn wide so Josh Aiken may have to come with one run. He won at Bendigo last time coming home in a ridiculously fast 54.1 however it was the ease in which he did it which impressed. Buyers beware though – he can need luck in his races.
Franco Nelson is coming off a good sixth in the NZ cup after a win at Kaikoura. Extra smart horse who does prefer the tapes. Restrepo lowered the colours of Hector two starts ago at Yarra Valley but was no match last time. Bling It On beat Lenny home last week with a blistering turn of foot in the last 200m. He will be suited by the smaller track here however I think he is just below top class. Really can’t see anything else winning this.
Selections – 8-5-4-2
|5. Franco Nelson||$7.80|
|2. Bling It On||$14.50|
|12. Delightful Offer||$130.00|
|6. Flaming Flutter||$300.00|
|9. Run Oneover||$300.00|
|13. Smokey The Bandit||$300.00|
