The Betfair Insider Harness: Globe Derby, Saturday 8th January 2017 – SA Pacing Cup

Posted: January 5, 2017

R7 2017 UBET South Australian Pacing Cup (Group 1) | 2645m

Great race and who can ever forget the champ Smoken Up winning here. We have another champ going around in 2017 however with SMOLDA. Brilliant drive to win the Interdominion at Gloucester Park a month ago, after winning a heat and placing in the other two. Has been pretty much the benchmark for horses across the Tasman for quite some time now and should be winning here. Hopefully the locals are out in force to see such a great horse.

MESSINI is another ex-kiwi who has spent plenty of time in Australia. Unlucky not to win at Bankstown three starts ago and was somewhat disappointing last week at Cobram (however he was stuck in the chair which isn’t his go and they ran 1.56.1 for 2678m). Looks the logical quinella. DESDON MURRUFFY is an open class Victorian who can place. JILLIBY JAGGER has been going well lately winning three in a row before a sixth in the Lightning Mile at Ballarat behind Young Modern.

The best of the “locals” is WHENMECHIEF who has now won three in a row including a track record breaking Whyalla Cup win at Port Pirie (1.54.8 for 2050m). This is the most improved horse in Australia with Darren Billinger doing an amazing job with him considering this horse couldn’t get out of its own shadow three months ago, ADAM CARTWRIGHT gets a gun run on the pegs and can finish in the exotics.
