Race Analysis

Not much to say here than watch an absolute champion of NZ trotting do its thing. Monbet was awesome on Cup Day here – had to work in the chair and never looked comfortable down the straight but still had the audacity to nab Marcoola on the line. That was over the short journey – much better suited here over the two miles.

After Monbet wins, he will join such other NZ Legends like I Can Doosit, Stig and Lyell Creek to win this race. Bet against him at your peril. Kyvalley Blur picks itself in the placings on its run on Tuesday when a fast finishing third.

The distance should suit and looks a standout second pick. Habibti and Sheemon were both disappointing on Tuesday after having their chances but are both too good a horse to leave out of calculations. Bordeaux is coming off a good Kaikoura Cup victory – the winner of 8/16 suggests this gelding is a trotter of the future.

Harriet Of Mot, Alley Way, Sunny Ruby and One Over Da Moon are all contenders for First 4 placings however, sit back and enjoy a champion (Monbet) do his thing.

Race Analysis

All hail the new king – Lazarus. His win in the NZ Cup here on Tuesday was nothing short of amazing. Forced to do work for the first lap before gaining the lead off stablemate Smolda, he went BANG on the home turn and had the audacity to win by 10 lengths, pretty much hard held and going away from them. It looked like he could go another lap – but today he only needs to go 1950m. He can either bully his way to the top here or go to the chair and dictate things.

Dream About Me is the champion mare – beat the older horses Field Marshall and Locharburn on Tuesday. She had to do it tough in the death seat but the sectionals were so slow that she only had to sprint home 400m. Tiger Tara is such an unlucky horse – seems to always find one better and that was the case on Tuesday.

He was awesome in running second after doing early work. Gets the gun draw here and is a huge place chance. Christen Me is a former champ who ran a good fifth in the cup – the winner of a Miracle Mile, no doubt he can win at his best. Again, sit back and watch what will be one of the best horses you will see in the next 10 years – LAZARUS!
