European Raiders

Godolphin’s Scottish is a lightly raced front-runner who’s won up to 2000m and has placed multiple times at 2400m.

Second up from an eight month break, Scottish accounted for the likes of Trip to Paris first up at Sandown Park (UK) in a Group 3 race over the 2018m and proceeded to run second in the Rose of Lancaster Stakes (Group 3) before taking out the Group 3 Strensall Stakes at 1800m.

He appears best suited on Good ground and I expect him to lead the Caulfield Cup field.

The successful Australian Bloodstock Syndicate have purchased an interest in the former French trained Articus. The horse was transferred to Andreas Wohler which reconnects the Protectionist link to Australian Bloodstock.

Articus is lightly raced with only nine starts to his name but has an impressive four wins and three placings to his credit. After beginning his career in France, Articus had his final four starts in Germany before entering quarantine.

He took out the Group 3 Maxios Hamburg over 2000m at Honnover, Germany before placing fifth at Group 1 level at Munich. He’s an X-Factor runner with unusual formlines.

Sir Isaac Newton

Trained by Aiden O’Brien, Sir Isaac Newton has had 12 career starts for three wins. His peak performance was in the Group 3 Finlay Volvo International when a ¾ length winner over Chemical Charge at The Curragh racecourse.

He edged out Exospheric for fourth in the Group 1 Juddmonte International over 2092m on a Good to Firm track back in August before preparing for quarantine after a failure at Leopardstown. He’s a strong European stayer but he’ll need to adapt to our tight racetracks and potential stop / start tactics.

Exospheric (Exosphere GB)

Formally trained by Sir Michael Stoute, Exospheric is now in the Lee & Anthony Freedman camp based at Flemington. He’s a lightly raced 4YO with four wins to his name from just the 10 starts.

He’s mixed his form on both Good and Soft ground but he has beaten and been competitive with some of the best stayers in Europe. His career best win was over 2400m at Newmarket (Group 2) where he defeated the likes of Simple Verse and Big Orange.

He’s a real grinder who stays on very strongly but will not be suited in a slowly run race.
