MORPHETTVILLE | RACING TIPS | SATURDAY 14 MAY 2022
Rail: +3m from 1800m-Winning Post; Parks track +3m from 1000m-Winning Post | Track Condition: Soft5 | Weather: Showers, 20 degrees.
BEST BACK OF THE DAY: Race 6 | #3 The Brumby (WIN) for 1.5 units
The Brumby and Thrill Kill finished together in a blanket go last start versus Rapid Raiser. The Brumby gets in 3kg better at the weights. Looks well placed. Steps up to a good distance and Vorster retains the ride.
BEST LAY OF THE DAY: Race 6 | #11 Fox D’Or (WIN) for 2 units
Can’t knock the way Fox D’Or is going but last two wins have been in BM54 and BM60 grade. Has to step up to BM75 grade and is unknown at the the trip.
Race 1 | Morphettville | Lachlan Mosley’s Selections & Tips
12. Miss Daniel
4. Queman
3. No Way Ever
8. Speed Lover
MISS DANIEL was a dominant debut winner last prep and looks to have a good future. Has form around the Group 2-placed Manhattan Times. Draws for the best run here and gets a nice claim.
QUEMAN has to step up another level but hard not to be impressed with the win last start. NO WAY EVER just got stuck wide last start and was wanting in the last 100m. Stuck on OK. John Allen will have to produce a magic steer but, he always rides the Adelaide carnival well.
SPEED LOVER was a good maiden winner here two back before making good ground as favourite at Mildura last start. Sure to be running home well.
Race 2 | Morphettville | Lachlan Mosley’s Selections & Tips
15. Skilled Bunch
5. Aguilette
4. Trip
3. My Boy Birmingham
Betting Strategy
BACK (EACH-WAY) – Skilled Bunch for 1 unit to win & 2 units to place
SKILLED BUNCH didn’t have much go right for him first-up when held up for runs and virtually went through the line untested. Has great 2nd up form. Good value!
AGUILETTE has been excellent the past two starts. Draws well here and Vorster on a key booking. TRIP drops back in grade here and is sure to give a sight out in-front, while MY BOY BIRMINGHAM did enough first up and will appreciate the 1400m now. Has a poor gate but if they go quick, can settle back and rattle home.
Race 3 | Morphettville | Lachlan Mosley’s Selections
7. Street Delight
6. Hope At Hand
3. Solar Blast
1. Twin Stars
BACK (WIN) – Street Delight for 1 unit
Not sure how much luck STREET DELIGHT had here last start. Seemed to be swinging with a lapful of horse but had no where to go. Got out late for eye-catching fourth. Up to 1400m suits now and Oliver sticks the ride.
HOPE AT HAND is probably worth forgiving from last start. Wasn’t expecting him to lead and knocked up late. Best ridden with a sit here from gate 4. SOLAR BLAST was terrific on debut for 3rd over the 1200m. The 1400m looks ideal now. TWIN STARS was another who made a big ground late and will appreciate the extra furlong. Good race!
Race 4 | Morphettville | Lachlan Mosley’s Selections
11. Capriccio
12. Point Blaze
7. Extra Time
13. Munster
CAPRICCIO was specked first-up at Flemington, but got a bit lost down the straight and was potentially in the worst part of the track. His best would beat these and will appreciate getting round a bend with some cover.
POINT BLAZE returns from Stakes grade, where she ran a closing fifth. This looks easier and has drawn well. EXTRA TIME has been disappointing of late, but was backed last start and made up OK ground in worst part of the track. MUNSTER draws well and looked good at a recent trial. Can bounce back!

Race 5 | Morphettville | Lachlan Mosley’s Selections & Tips
5. Howl
3. Meteorite
1. Calypso Reign
7. Sakatoon
HOWL might have been something beaten first-up at Oakbank, charging through the pack late to just miss. Looks a horse on the up. Drawn poorly but should go back with the tempo on and have the last crack.
METEORITE was an eye-catcher first up in good company. Twice a winner second-up from four attempts.
CALYPSO REIGN was a strong winner first-up. Can go on with things here, while SASKATOON is coming off a moderate Gawler win, but looks a progressive type and can take the next step.
Race 6 | Morphettville | Lachlan Mosley’s Selections
3. The Brumby
2. Thrill Kill
4. Morty
1. Clever Man
Betting Strategy
BACK (WIN) – The Brumby for 1.5 units
THE BRUMBY and THRILL KILL finished together in a blanket go last start versus RAPID RAISER. The Brumby gets in 3kg better at the weights. Looks well placed.
LAY (WIN) – Fox D’Or for 2 units
Can’t knock the way FOX D’OR is going, but last two wins have been in BM54 and BM60 grade. Has to step up to BM75 grade and is unknown at the the trip.
MORTY lumped a big weight, but got home well last start. Up in grade but drops in weight and the 1800m is up his alley.
CLEVER MAN is racing in career best form. Draws poorly but can overcome that with a good steer.
Race 7 | Morphettville | Lachlan Mosley’s Selections
1. Illation
4. Hopon Harry
2. Umgawa
3. Riddlero
Betting Strategy
Not sure how they beat ILLATION. Looks a potential Cox Plate horse! Was dominant in the Nitschke Stakes winner under a hold by 3.8L.
BACK (PLACE) – Hopon Harry for 2.5 units
HOPON HARRY was a touch luckless in the same race. Was never going to win but should have finished much closer. Hit the line hard.
UMGAWA was a good mile winner two starts back before making good late ground over the 1400m. Back to the mile suits.
RIDDLERO is yet to miss a place from nine starts. This is obviously harder, but can fill the minors.
Race 8 | Morphettville (South Australian Derby) | Lachlan Mosley’s Selections & Tips
11. Yaphet
1. Alegron
6. Detonator Jack
7. The Nephew
Betting Strategy
BACK (WIN) – Yaphet for 0.5 units
Thought YAPHET caught the eye last start at Caulfield over 2000m. Has a different form line leading into this and could be the surprise packet. Gives every indication that the extra 500m trip will suit.
ALEGRON is the obvious choice. Smashed older horses in the VRC St. Leger. Drawn well and Oliver sticks. DETONATOR JACK was a dominant winner at Sandown last start. Looks progressive.
BACK (WIN) – The Nephew for 0.5 units
THE NEPHEW finished a closing second behind him that day and meets him 1.5kg better at the weights. Good rough play for the multiples.
Race 9 | Morphettville | Lachlan Mosley’s Selections & Tips
1. Damascus Moment
12. Sitting Bull
15. Lady Pavli Chenko
3. Rejinksy
As per usual a very tricky end to the day.
DAMASCUS MOMENT gets the soft draw and claim for Rawiller. Drops in grade and the close second to Gase Grise looks pretty good now.
SITTING BULL looked good at the trials and generally fires well fresh. One at odds!
LADY PAVLI CHENKO will probably need the hit out but draws to receive an easy run and gets in well with the claim. REJINSKY brings different form lines in. Has been kept safe in the market.
