MOONEE VALLEY RACING TIPS | SATURDAY 30 JULY 2022

Expecting an advantage to horses handy on speed and in lanes 1-2 in the straight.

BEST BACK OF THE DAY: Race 1 | #1 Daguilar for 2 units (Rated at $2.60)

Very keen on the consistent gelding with the red hot combination of Egan & Payne. He is at peak fitness now and in the small field will be prominent throughout, making his own luck.

BEST LAY OF THE DAY: Race 2 | #1 Alpha One to profit 1 unit at < $4.50

Just cannot have this Snowden-trained colt as short as he is on the Exchange coming off a narrow win at Hawkesbury last start. The win only rated average and is up against some talented types capable of improving sharply.

Race 1 | Expert Tips | Chris Camilleri’s Selections

1. Daguilar
2. Not Usual Glorious
4. Prince Of Helena
3. Mohican Heights

Very keen on the consistent Daguilar with the red hot combination of Egan & Payne. He is at peak fitness now and in the small field will be prominent throughout making his own luck.

Betting Strategy

BACK (WIN) – Daguilar for 2 units (Rated at $2.60)

Race 2 | Expert Tips | Chris Camilleri’s Selections

4. Shalaman
2. The Guava
1. Alpha One
7. Keysborough

Just cannot have the Snowden-trained Alpha One as short as he is on the Exchange coming off a narrow win at Hawkesbury last start. The win only rated average and is up against some talented types capable of improving sharply.

Betting Strategy

LAY (WIN) – Alpha One to profit 1 unit at < $4.50

Race 3 | Expert Tips | Chris Camilleri’s Selections

4. Written Swoosh
3. Va Via
1. Bistro
11. Shes Amore

Written Swoosh looks a talented filly that produced a strong figure on debut last preparation. If she’s able to reproduce that rating, she will be resuming a winner over the 955m.

Betting Strategy

BACK (WIN) – Written Swoosh for 2 units

Race 4 | Expert Tips | Chris Camilleri’s Selections

16. Permutation
2. Storm King
6. Delicious Tycoon
4. Rock Up

Low confidence race to suggest a betting play with a capacity field and many having the required form to be in the finish over the 2040m.

Race 5 | Expert Tips | Chris Camilleri’s Selections

4. Rudhyar
12. Ferago
8. Hereforagoodtime
6. Mimis Reward

Rudhyar is an in-form galloper from the Lindsey Smith stable that looks set to record a peak performance. Has the early speed to find the front from out wide. With Jamie Kah booked to ride, will prove the one to run down.

Betting Strategy

BACK (WIN) – Rudhyar for 2 units (Rated @ $3.60)

Race 6 | Expert Tips | Chris Camilleri’s Selections

3. Zoulah
11. Thalaasophile
16. Pitchanun
2. Amercain Angel

Low confidence race with many in the field having the required to form to be in the finish. Other races appeal as betting propositions.

Race 7 | Expert Tips | Chris Camilleri’s Selections

3. Jimmy The Bear
6. El Cordobes
2. Umgawa
10. Set To Prophet

Keen on the consistent Jimmy The Bear with the red hot Payne & Egan combination. The gelding is at peak fitness now. He’s in a field with limited early speed and will lead or sit outside of the pace, which will be a big advantage on a track that will suit those on pace.

Betting Strategy

BACK (WIN) – Jimmy The Bear for 2 units (Rated @ $3.40)

Race 8 | Expert Tips | Chris Camilleri’s Selections

15. Zoltan
11. Thought Of That
12. Tavidance
14. Chief Altony

I’m laying Chief Altony and it purely comes down to drawing barrier 9 on the tight turning Moonee Valley track. If connections decide to roll forward, he could get caught wide throughout. If going back, he might not be able to make up the required ground in the short straight.

Betting Strategy

LAY (WIN) – Chief Altony to profit 1 unit at < $6.00

Race 9 | Expert Tips | Chris Camilleri’s Selections

6. Invincible Jet
11. Home Rule
5. Hello Broadcast
18. Gloves Are Off

Impossible race to suggest a betting play with a capacity field over the 1200m with many having the required form to be in the finish.

MOONEE VALLEY RACECOURSE

Known simply as The Valley, Moonee Valley Racing Club is the home of the Cox Plate, billed as Australasia’s weight-for-age championship. The $5 million race, which celebrated its centenary edition in 2020, became synonymous with Winx after Chris Waller’s mighty mare won it four years running. The Valley is also synonymous with night racing, having been the first club in Victoria to race under lights. Both the Group 1 Manikato Stakes and the Group 1 William Reid Stakes are run under lights. Whether it’s a day or a night meeting, our team of tipsters is adept at identifying the best Moonee Valley bets.

FAST FACTS

  • The $200m redevelopment of The Valley is due for completion in 2026, with the racecourse due to close after the 2024 Cox Plate to facilitate construction of the new grandstand. The club’s aim is to convert the precinct into the world’s leading night racing destination.

KEY EVENTS

The W.S. Cox Plate, which was first run in 1922 with a prize purse of just £1,000, is The Valley’s showpiece occasion. Currently worth $5 million and with several champion racehorses adorning its illustrious honour roll, the Cox Plate is widely considered to be Australian racing’s truest weight-for-age test. Mighty mare Winx dominated the Cox Plate between 2015 and 2018, surpassing the feats of Kingston Town to become the first horse in history to win the race on four occasions. Winx won the 2018 Cox Plate at odds of $1.24 and was even shorter in 2017, jumping the $1.18 favourite, but Betfair’s Moonee Valley tips tend to offer punters more value!

TRACK PROFILE

Known for its tight turns, The Valley is very much a ‘horses for courses’ type of track. The home straight of just 173 metres is the shortest straight in Australia, meaning it pays to be up on the speed (particularly in sprint races) as backmarkers rarely make up much ground. With a similar track profile to The Valley, horses trained at Mornington have a better-than-average strike rate here.

When the rail is moved out 5m (or more), the track often favours horses drawn inside as they can dictate the pace of the race and make a winning break coming round the final turn. The Valley’s drainage system is excellent, with the track rarely rated in the Heavy range. Betfair’s experts take all the track variables into account when bringing you their Moonee Valley tips.

HISTORY

Moonee Valley Racecourse was established in 1883 by William Samuel (W.S.) Cox, in whose honour the Cox Plate is named. In 1882, Cox purchased a farm belonging to John F. Feehan – in whose honour the Feehan Stakes is named – for the sole purpose of establishing a racetrack. With the club entirely owning the freehold land on which the racecourse sits, Moonee Valley is distinguished from other Melbourne metropolitan racecourses such as Caulfield and Flemington.  Check out Betfair’s best bets for Moonee Valley today.
