Menangle, Saturday 11th February 2017: Chariots Of Fire

Race 7 Cordina Chicken Farms Chariots Of Fire (Group 1) – 1609m MS

Australasia’s premier 4yo race hasn’t failed to deliver again. Champion LAZARUS is the obvious top pick off the back of its dominant Victoria Cup win two starts ago where it killed them winning by 12m in the sizzling time of 1.52.5. May have looked “disappointing” if that’s possible when winning the 4yo Bonanza last week at Melton but didn’t really look to handle a couple of turns. Purdon didn’t blast Lazarus out there but I expect differently here with the main danger drawn outside him and some “hand up” horses inside.

SALTY ROBYN is airborne having won 10 in a row this campaign and regularly being around the $1.50 mark here. It’s not your usual Tritton horse; he takes his time to balance up then heads to the death seat where he shows his phenomenal cruising speed. Can he sit outside Lazarus? It remains to be seen but promises to be a great show.

SAMS THE MASTER is going out of this world. His second to Lets Chase The Dream in 1.49.9 last time was unbelievable as he had to do work to get to the chair and only went down by 3.6m.

Kiwi LETS CHASE THE DREAM could be the one swooping if they go bananas. Two wins at the track in recent weeks included that 1.49.9 victory. OUR WAIKIKI BEACH is the former fantastic two and 3yo who has disappointed in three starts this campaign. Has he lost his shine? No better time than to prove the knockers wrong here.

DASHOFLUCK has been awesome in his last two but this is another step up (did win in 1.50.0 last time though). ARMA THE GUN has good gate speed and will contest the early lead in the endeavour to get behind the leader. What a race, what time can they run? It’s going to be 40 degrees at Menangle today so the track WILL be on fire. Track record? Well, who knows!
