Brisbane Roar v Sydney FC

Monday 8  January 7:50pm – Suncorp Stadium

Match Overview

Brisbane slumped to another home defeat this season when they went down 0-2 to Western Sydney. They had their chances but eventually the lack of personnel told in the end. They get Eric Bautheac back into the squad but still miss a host of players.

Sydney had a 2-2 draw with the Jets in a high-quality match. The Jets showed what a high press can do against Sydney but that is not something they will have to contend with from Brisbane. Captain Alex Brosque returns to give the front 4 a little more shape.

Key Statistics (League Rank in Brackets)

  • Brisbane have won 1 of 8 at home this season losing 5.
  • Offensively Brisbane have scored an average of 1.1 goals per match (8th) from 10.4 (9th) total shots and 3.7 (8th) shots on target. Their conversion rate of 31% of shots on target is ranked 7th.
  • Offensively Sydney have scored an average of 2.5 goals per match (1st) from 13.9 (2nd) total shots and an amazing 6.1 (1st) shots on target. Their conversion rate of 41% of shots on target is also ranked 1st.
  • Sydney have won 15 of their last 20 away matches, losing just 2.

Verdict

Hard to see Brisbane keeping up with Sydney, particularly after dropping points to the Jets. Sydney also have the advantage of 2 days extra between matches.

Betting Strategy

BACK – Sydney at -1.0 in the Asian Handicap market for 2 units at 1.8+

Perth Glory v Melbourne City

Tuesday 9 December 10:00pm – NIB Stadium

Match Overview

Perth were poor in losing 0-3 to Adelaide not coping at all with the strong Adelaide midfield. After conceding 9 without reply the 2 wins prior are a distant memory and perhaps those wins against Wellington and Brisbane masked the problems at Perth. To be fair they have had to and continue to have to deal with a lot of key injuries.

City laboured to a 2-1 win over Wellington. They are certainly not at their attacking best however that win will give them greater confidence. It will be interesting to see if Daniel Arzani can get a start after turning the match on it’s head against Wellington. Certainly, I think it is time to give such a talent a start and see how he copes with the entire 90 minutes.

Key Statistics

  • In the last 7 head to head matches
    • Perth have scored an average of 2.9 goals from 15.7 total shots and 6.3 shots on goal
    • City have scored an average of 2.7 goals from 19.1 shots and 6.4 shots on goal
    • 7/7 have recorded over 2.5 and over 3.5 goals. 5/7 have recorded over 4.5 goals

Verdict

Whilst the goals in Perth home matches have not flowed quite as they once did the history between these 2 suggests goals.

Betting Strategy

BACK – Over 2.5 goals at 1.5+ for 2 units

BACK – Over 3.5 goals at 2.3+ for 1 unit

BACK – Over 3.5 goals at 2.3+ for 1 unit

Western Sydney Wanderers v Adelaide United

Wednesday 10 January 7:50pm – ANZ Stadium

Match Overview

The Wanderers won their 2nd on the trot with a 2-0 win over Brisbane. That win came on the back of the win over City. Neither of these were particularly impressive but in fairness they just need to grind out some results.

Adelaide have overcome their injury run to be nearing back to full strength, barring a couple of players away on international duty. They have been hit and miss alternating wins and losses over the last 7 weeks.

Key Statistics (League rank in brackets)

  • Western Sydney have won just 6 of 19 home matches since leaving Parramatta Stadium. Drawing 8 and Losing 5.
  • Offensively Western Sydney have scored an average of 1.3 goals per match (6th) from 11.4 (6th) total shots and 3.8 (7th) shots on target. Their conversion rate of 31% of shots on target is ranked 8th.
  • Offensively Adelaide have scored an average of 1.4 goals per match (3rd) from 15.9 (1st) total shots and 3.9 (5th) shots on target. Their conversion rate of 33% of shots on target is also ranked 3
  • Adelaide have won 4 of their 7 away matches this season, losing 2.

Verdict

Happy to be on Adelaide here particularly now that Johan Absalonsen is back in the team.

Betting Strategy

BACK – Adelaide to win draw no bet for 2 units at 1.9+

BACK – Adelaide to win in the match for 1 unit at 2.6+
