(1) Aussie Secret

The Victorian stars first step from the boxes was to head up the track from the same draw in his heat. He was bumped and quickly adjusted back to the inside where he was provided plenty of room to challenge for the lead with a first split of 5.10.

He was one of the fastest runners to the second mark with a time of 11.08 and the runners that can match him here both raced away from the rail so he may get another chance to work to the lead before the home straight. One of the top chances.

(2) Mepunga Gertie

Seemed to appreciate the outside draw a week ago when she began well and stayed wide to the turn recording smart sections of 5.14 and 11.18. She struggled from this draw in her Devonport Chase heat last month when she was crossed early and found trouble seemingly wanting to race away from the rail.

She will need her best here to get clear racing room in the run to the turn.

(3) Eagles Nest Egg

The slowest qualifier for the final was also the equal slowest runner for the first section with a time of 5.22 from box one. He recovered to hold a forward spot with impressive mid-race speed before a check before the home straight saw him come to the outside of the leader and win by a small margin.

He won’t be able to give any of these chasers a head-start and may find it tough from back in the field.

(4) Sacred Stance

Was extremely impressive in his heat running a great time with terrific sections of 5.07 and 10.98. He seems happy to stay in the middle of the track in his races as he did mostly in his heat win so the draw may not be too bad. Add a rails runner in box three and a slower starter to his outside and he may get a chance to show his pace and challenge for the front.

If he is afforded a clean start, he is a big chance to take out the final based on his overall times.

(5) Superior Wallis

The Group 3 Ladbrokes Devonport Chase winner is the fastest qualifier for the final. He showed his dazzling mid-race speed to position second behind Ferdinand Boy after an early split of 5.20 he recorded 11.13 to the second mark. He then chased bravely in the home straight to rail through and take the win.

The concern here is the awkward draw combined with his limited box speed and a runner who headed straight for the fence a week ago on his outside.

(6) Do It

The Victorian chaser and Group 1 Adelaide Cup winner charged to the inside after the start knocking over a few runners on the way. This most likely affected his early section, and he recorded the equal slowest run of 5.22. He was still able to hold second spot entering the turn in the small field and railed strongly to win in an overall time of 26.06.

There isn’t a lot of speed drawn around him however he may need some luck getting to the fence from the same draw in this quality field.

(7) Keen

Began as well as he can in his heat with an early split of 5.18 before he was outpaced in the run to the turn. He received a clean run however and found the fence before the home straight and finished well, chasing hard to grab the win.

He has a difficult draw and lacks some speed to the bend which may see him in the back half of the field, and it would be very hard to win this race from there.

(8) Ferdinand Boy

Was finally able to find the front at his fourth Tasmanian start and the result was a terrific run, the second fastest of the eight finalists. He was the fastest chaser from the heats through the first and second sections and looks a great chance to repeat that effort from the outside draw with no great speed to his inside.

If he can get across the field and lead through the bend, he may be very tough to run down based on his heat effort.
