Race Analysis

The pick of the three Group 1’s tonight.  This has the potential to be a classic race. REEFTON TREASURE has been airborne in his past two starts and has relished the step up to this distance range. He looks to have a great draw here and he should be able to land four or five lengths behind the leader at the winning post the first time around and storm home.

FANTA BALE is as professional as they come and she should ping the lids and she could lead for a long way. The Britton kennel has been going very well of late and she may be trained to the minute. BLAZIN BOMBER is right in this, I was more keen when Lithgow Panther was in the field as I thought he could get some early room, now the draw becomes more of a question mark but he may be able to run a career best race here with some early luck.

EXTREME MAGIC was scintillating when nearly breaking the track record here last month, I was slightly disappointed in his Cranbourne Cup heat run, even though he still ran time I expected him to win. He cannot be forgotten about here. DUNDEE OSPREY has won a Group 1 over 525m from this draw, I haven’t really liked some of his recent runs and if he had a squeeze draw I would lay, but not off the pink.

CYNDIE’S MAGIC gets punter’s hearts racing with her get back/fly home racing style but I think she may get too far back here. BUCK FORTY has been racing well enough to win, but he is very stubborn and races best from inside draws so this alley is no help to him.

HIT THE HIGHWAY has a nice draw where he can click through his gears nicely along the paint but I don’t think he has been racing well enough of late to win this.

Field & Stats

1. Reefton Treasure: Best 34.41 (28/1/17). Hasn’t missed a placing in his past eight starts. One from one over this trip. Four wins from four starts this draw. Runner up in Group 1 Maturity Classic Final at this track.

2. Hit The Highway: Best 34.37 (3/12/16).  One from one over this trip. Never missed a placing from this draw (two starts). Only missed a placing three times in 22 career starts.

3. Fanta Bale: Best 34.34 (31/10/16). Hasn’t missed a placing since September (15 starts in a row). Three wins and two placings from five starts this draw. Group 1 Hume Cup winner over this trip. Three from three here.

4. Lithgow Panther (scratched)

5. Blazin’ Bomber: No best time. Has been in the money from 40 of 52 career starts. Only one win and one placing from four starts this draw. Has never raced over this trip at this track. Fifth Group 1 final but never better than third.

6. Buck Forty: Best 34.47 (21/5/16). Two wins and a second from three starts this trip. Been placed five times from nine starts from this draw. Only dog in field to not win in his past three starts.

7. Cyndie’s Magic: No best time. Has only raced at this track once over 725m in October where she finished eighth. Has won seven of her last eight starts, all at Albion Park. This is her worst performed box (only one win from 11 starts).

8. Dundee Osprey: No best time. Has only raced once over this trip. 2016 Group 1 Top Gun winner here over 525m. Group 1 2016 Sale Cup winner over 650m. Two wins and two placings in seven starts from this draw.

9. Extreme Magic: First emergency who gains a start. Best 33.92 (8/1/17). Best time here was only .01 outside track record. Two from two over this trip. Has not won in his past four starts. Best form has come from middle draws.

10. Bruce Tycoon: Second emergency. Best 34.37 (3/9/16). Two from five over this trip. Veteran chaser who has had 86 career starts. 11 of 26 career wins Boxes 1-2. Has yet to race in 2017.

Race Analysis

An extremely tricky race on paper. Any chaser could win this with the right luck at the first turn. ASTON BOLERO is a brilliant beginner who rarely misses the kick, he is likely to be right in the thick of it up until the home turn, where he tends to tire over this distance range.

He could get swamped late but I am not willing to lay him. ZAMBORA BROCKIE is the big name and multiple group winner in the race, I just query his draw here as he has developed a habit of racing better from wider draws, if he’s at his best though he could still win.

STRIKER LIGHT easily has the best draw of any chaser, but she is still very young and she will know she’s alive here when the lids open against some of the fastest first split dogs in the country. I am keen to take her on here. LIGHTNING FRANK is a superstar in the making, I am just not sure where he lobs at the first turn, he could be thundering home along the paint.

WORM BURNER is a superstar in his home state but has never quite cut the mustard in Victoria. He doesn’t seem to like this tight circuit but I was impressed with his recent trial here, albeit solo. PEPPER FIRE could be the blowout chance here, she races well from wide draws, has experience at this track and has been racing in top company in Perth for several months, I am just worried some other chasers might spear off and check her on the first bend.

PANTERA NERA has been back to his best lately, but have never quite trusted him around this track, he may be sizzling early so you can’t lay him. JESAULENKO can be a little hard to catch of late and his record at city tracks is much worse than his horse shoe track form in the country. From this draw I am happy to lay him.

Field & Stats

1. Striker Light Best 29.91 (31/12/16). Undefeated in two starts from Box 1. Nine career wins from 13 starts. Has a 5.04 PB first split. Recent Group 1 Futurity winner at Wentworth Park. Only 23 months of age, six months younger than any other runner.

Ran third in Group 1 National Derby at Wentworth Park. Second youngest chaser in field. Has a 5.10 first split PB.

8. Pepper Fire: No best time. Gun WA chaser who was recently runner up in Group 1 Perth Cup. Has raced over this trip four times but is yet to win. Has a 5.12 first split PB. Four starts from this draw for two wins and two seconds.

9. Shima Song: First emergency, Best 30.00 (16/4/16). Has won from every box but 12 of 20 career wins from Boxes 5-8. Six wins and four seconds from 12 starts over this trip. Has a PB first split of 5.05.

Race Analysis

BURN ONE DOWN has returned to his best form of late in a recent stayers series at Cranbourne where he smashed his rivals. If this race was at Sandown Park I could make a case for taking him on but he excels over this track and trip. Complemented with the inside draw it is impossible to take him on so I am happy to bet up here. TRIP TO EDEN has been racing with great heart and only just missed pinching a Group 1 race at Cannington last start, he may make it a quinella for the Thompson kennel here. BOGIE BEKIM was superb in winning the Galaxy last start but this draw is harder and he may not get all his own way this time around.

TEDDY MONELLI is the rising star of the field but may be too much too soon, he may be better for the trip interstate and is worth following over the coming weeks, just not tonight. SPRINGVALE BRYNE is the queen of staying races at Angle Park and has her favourite draw here, she could run a drum at monster place odds on the exchange. DUBLIN BULL is a veteran chaser who has found some form again but this looks too tough for him.

IT’S A BIRD has been raced too sparingly for mine, although she has won a Group 1 race from this draw I am keen to take her on, I am hoping the cherry draw means she is unders on the exchange. JAIMANDY HATTY does race well from the wide draw but can make mistakes early and would need to find the early lead to win, I can’t see that happening.

Field & Stats

1. It’s A Bird: No best time. Six placings from eight starts from this draw. Never better than third in three starts over this trip. Has yet to race in 2017. Group 1 Bold Trease winner at Sandown Park.

2. Burn One Down: Best 41.98 (19/11/16). Undefeated in two starts from this draw. Has fastest winning time out of this field. Hasn’t missed a placing in his past nine starts. Group 2 Topgun Stayers winner here. 2016 Meadows Greyhound of the Year.

3. Trip to Eden Best 42.10 (31/12/16). Six of 13 career wins from Boxes 1-3. Only missed a placing 10 times from 35 starts.. In the money in his past five starts. Recent runner up in Group 1 Galaxy at Cannington.

4. Bogie Bekim: No best time. Has never raced at the track but trialled recently over 525m in 29.88. Last start Group 1 Galaxy winner at Cannington. Has won five of his last six starts. Two wins and one placing in five starts from this draw.

5. Dublin Bull: Best 42.82 (9/1/16). Two wins and a second from 4 starts from this draw. Last start Group 2 winner at Wentworth Park over 720m. Most experienced and oldest chaser in field (69 starts). Has not won at this track since September.

6. Jaimandy Hatty: Best 42.15 (5/11/16). 1 win and a placing from four starts over this trip. In the money nine times from 11 starts from this draw. Only missed a placing 10 times from 44 starts.

7. Teddy Monelli: No best time. Has never raced out of Western Australia. Youngest and most inexperienced chaser in field. Has only competed in one Group race. Has not missed a placing in 13 starts. Four from four from this draw.

8. Springvale Bryne: No best time. Has scored an amazing 18 wins over 731m at Angle Park. Has never missed a placing in nine starts from this draw including five wins. Second most experienced chaser in field (65 starts).

9. Allen Lottery: First emergency. Best 42.77 (8/1/17). Two wins from six starts over this trip. Nine of 17 career wins from Boxes 1-2. Has finished down the track in his two most recent starts.

10. Chrichton Bale: Second emergency. Best 42.79 (28/11/15). Has won from every box. Best form has come from outside draws. Has not won in his past eight starts. Only one win in 11 starts over this trip.

Betting Strategy
