R6 The Pump House Caloundra Cup Listed 2400m Quality

Speed Map

(Note: Blue – Back, Best Profile/Value; Pink – Lay, Worst Profile/Value).

Race Comment

Not a vintage field for this years Caloundra Cup. No clear profile for the race which makes it quite difficult to assess. A common lead up race with a few success stories for this race is the Ipswich Cup; no one can deny the money for, and performance of the Melbourne visitor Self Sense. It was backed off the map and won in dominant fashion by over 6L. We rarely see victories by that margin, so it’s simply impossible to oppose him here. Small win bet Self Sense to back up the Ipswich Cup win.

Race Comment

A good quality Glasshouse Qly in 2017. No clear profile as we tend to see horses coming from all angles. The horse we will settle on is Too Good To Refuse. It looks to be absolutely crying out for the 1400m and it will get it with good pace on with the likes of Flamboyer (last years winner who will give a sight) and Monsieur Gustave going forward. Third up off a freshen the two x 1200m races really set up well for the 1400m here. The Group 3 Healy is a good quality lead up event for this Listed Race. The other horse with what looks untapped potential is William Wallace. He hasn’t put a foot wrong since coming over from NZ. Can really knuckle down late and will appreciate the weight drop into this event. Small bets Too Good To Refuse and William Wallace.

R8 Sunshine Coast Guineas G3 1600m 3YO SW

Speed Map

Race Comment

Good quality full field for the Guineas. The profile suggests a strong run on type horse who usually has come through either the Sydney Autumn, Queensland Guineas, Fred Best or good quality form against the older horses. A horse who ticks a majority of those boxes is #1 Acatour. From a young age this Colt has oozed potential. He performed well in the Sydney Autumn. Had a light freshen and there is no doubt if it got clear room in the Eye Liner at Ipswich against the older horses it would’ve won the race. That was no doubt a light lead up event for this race. He should really appreciate the open Sunshine Coast track he is a confident win bet.
