EXPERT RACING TIPS: CRANBOURNE

CRANBOURNE PREVIEW AND TIPS | Expert Tips | FRIDAY THE 19TH APRIL

RAIL: True | TRACK: Soft 6

The last meeting at Cranbourne with the rail in the true position it was very hard to make ground, keep an eye out for that pattern again, unless some rain falls.

BACK: 9. Room For Bingo (WIN) for 2 unit(s) (Rated at: $2.4)

Backing the race fitness with Room For Bingo, who was very well supported late in betting last start this track and distance, she was pressured for the lead and stuck on well, only beaten by a Laurie horse who appears Metro class. She should get an easy lead and I believe she deserves favouritism.

LAY: 2. Sacred Bull (WIN) for 2 unit(s) (Rated at: $4.8)

Sacred Bull has a low percentage racing pattern and if the track is playing on-speed, I find it hard to mark him favourite, his runs this preparation have been ok but no better than Porter or the impressive last start victory of Pure Power.

Not much between Derozario and Sun Gift for me, happy to stay out.

Little between the three in the market for me, slight edge to Think Rock.

RACE 4 | SELECTIONS

4. Missile Meg
3. Sacred Ingot
6. Hanafubuki
9. Sparkles Dior

Betting Strategy

NO BET.

No opinion here.

RACE 5 | SELECTIONS

3. Licensed
4. The Shaper
2. Tacito
7. Knucklebones

Betting Strategy

NO BET.

Licensed went cartwheeling away from his opposition on debut to win by a space and Price/Kent Jnr horses have been winning for fun first-up. I thought for sure I would be making him a bet but the form through that maiden was so poor that I can’t get him inside $2.4.

RACE 6 | SELECTIONS

2. Hypeman
12. Steel Impact
5. Djawara
9. Lucky Duck

Betting Strategy

NO BET.

Hypeman hardest to beat, jumped out very well for this but the market hasn’t missed.

RACE 7 | SELECTIONS

4. Porter
8. Pure Power
5. Master Right

CRANBOURNE RACING TIPS

Summary

Located approximately 50 kilometres south-east of Melbourne’s city centre, Cranbourne hosts 25 race meetings per year, predominantly on Friday nights and Sunday afternoons. Outside of the Cranbourne Cup, one of the club’s feature meetings is the tricode race night with harness, thoroughbred and greyhound races all on the same card. In total the fixture features 23 races, giving our cross-code team of tipsters the opportunity to come together and deliver their combined Cranbourne tips.

Key Events

The Cranbourne Cup is now a standalone meeting towards the back-end of the Spring Racing Carnival. The distance of the $500,000 Listed contest was reduced from 2025m to a mile in 2021. As well as the Cranbourne Cup, won by hometown hero King Magnus in 2021, the meeting also features the Apache Cat Classic, named in honour of multiple Group 1 winner Apache Cat (trained by Cranbourne horseman Greg Eurell). For premium Cranbourne tips on each and every meeting, head to the Betfair Hub.

Track Profile

Cranbourne Racecourse has a track circumference of 1,700m and a home straight of 300m. One unusual feature is that it has a very long chute – all starts from 1200m to 1600m are positioned within, and the 1000m start is located at the point where the chute meets the course proper. All horses have a long first straight in which to find their positions, before rounding the bend which brings them onto the home straight.

History

Cranbourne has a long history, with racing commencing way back in 1867 when a two-day meeting was held in April. In 2012 Cranbourne introduced floodlights, becoming the second racetrack in Victoria (after Moonee Valley) to host night racing. Wagering turnover on night racing has grown exponentially in that time, with Betfair’s team of tipsters providing Cranbourne best bets for each and every night fixture.

The club now also boasts the largest thoroughbred training facility in the southern hemisphere, with over 140 licenced trainers and more than 1,400 horses in training. In October 2014, a $4.9 million investment was made to construct on-course stables at Cranbourne, with the complex undergoing significant expansion following the closure of Caulfield’s stables.
