CHAMPAGNE STAKES | KEY RUNNERS

1. Don Corleone – Finished strongly for 2nd in the Blue Diamond, then a solid 4th in the Golden Slipper followed by a good 2nd to Militiarize in the Sires Produce last start. Wide gate a hindrance but rates highly.

2. Militiarize – Ran 3rd in the Todman Stakes before being knocked out of the race in the Golden Slipper. Bolted in winning the Sires Produce by 3.9 lengths.

4. Tom Kitten – Sat last in a very slowly run Fernhill Handicap last week but sprouted wings late to win. Ran a +6.5 last 800m – the 4th quickest of all runners on the day. Can win.

5. Bases Loaded – Solid thirds in both the Skyline and Pago Pago, then 5th after leading at a very fast pace – +7.7 lengths above par – in the Sires’ Produce. Can figure with a softer lead here.

10. Tannhauser – Was a solid 4th in the Fernhill last week at only his 3rd start. Drawn the ace. Has scope to improve here.
