R8 Thorndon Mile G1 Open SWP 1600m

Tempo: Strong

Major Players

1. Volkstok’n’barrell: An interesting setup after being first up at a mile (6th Captain Cook Stakes 1600m G1) and then second up into the Zabeel Classic (2nd 2000m G1). He drops back to the Mile on Saturday and will no doubt run a good race but I’m not perfectly comfortable with the setup and prefer him over 2000m these days.

4. The Justice League: An interesting galloper who was a New Zealand G2 winner over 1400m back in March 2016 before transferring over to the Darren Weir stable for two unsuccessful runs. Back to his original trainer and resumed off a 100 day spell for a dominant win over 1400m at Ellerslie 32 days ago. He looks dangerous.

5. Stolen Dance: Third in the G2 Isuzu Stakes over the mile to the flying Coldplay. She was given a hit out in a four-horse field on January 2 and would be primed for this run. Lacks the turn of foot to enthuse as the second pick in the market.

8. Ruud Not Too: Doing good things this time in taking out two consecutive races, including the Rich Hill Mile (G2 1600m) at her last start.

Betting Strategy

LAY (WIN) Volkstok’n’barrell at $5 or less for 3 units.

Good Luck Backing & Laying.
