R3 Karaka 3YO Mile LR 1600m SW

Tempo: Average

Major Players

1. Sacred Elixir: Not seen since his unlucky second in the Victoria Derby. Sacred Elixir is first up from a 90-day spell and I expect this classy galloper to run a big race. First up last prep he was super impressive when taking out a Group 3 at Caulfield when was completely unfancied by the market. We won’t be getting the same odds this time but should race well.

3. Heroic Valour: Placed in the NZ Guineas, Heroic Valour returned with a super impressive run in the John Deere Agroquip over 1500m two weeks ago. He’ll drop nicely in weight for this and looks a strong chance to upset the favourite with the run under his belt.

5. Swissta: An impressive galloper with three wins to his name from just the five career starts. Despite being ‘unimpressive’ to the eye when winning the Group 2 Great Northern Guineas he was three weeks between runs and had to sit outside the leader. He’ll run well but it was a blanket finish so I think we can take him on here.

9. Volpe Veloce: Is undefeated after six career starts, which is an enormous effort. She looked ‘all out’ at her past two starts but has responded on both occasions getting the job done for punters. Has the runs on the board and fitness edge over the favourite but will that be enough?

Betting Strategy

BACK (WIN) Sacred Elixir to win 4 units at $2.40 or more

R5 Karaka Million 2YO LR 1200m SW

Tempo: Average

Major Players

3. Padraig: Australia’s Hugh Bowman obtains the ride on this promising 2YO gelding. He raced in restricted room before working home stylishly to the race favourite Felton Road on debut and then was able to put away an average field at his following start. Should be peaking here.

4. Felton Road: Is the only undefeated galloper in this field and does look to have a stack of ability. He’s been able to overcome adversity at his past two starts but the latest was his doing hanging in badly over the concluding stages. He’s drawn Gate 1 on Sunday and could have some issues getting off the fence in the run should he choose to hang again. Happy to take him on at the short quote.

7. Gift Of Power: She comes from the alternative formline, which is based around the second pick in the market being Hasahalo. She won her previous 3 starts before narrowly going down to Hasahalo. Looks brave and will put herself in the race.

8. Hasahalo: Had little luck on debut when well beaten but has since gone on to run two impressive races. He flew when a narrow second to Gift Of Power before overpowering that same galloper when stepping up to 1200m last start.  Looks a perfect race for him to continue his winning ways.

Betting Strategy

LAY (WIN) Felton Road for 5 units at $2.70 or less

Good Luck Backing & Laying.
