R8 Perth Cup 2400m Group 2 Handicap

Major Players

1. Perfect Reflection: This quality mare won the Ted Van Heemst impressively last start at Group two level over 2100m. Fathoms of Gold made it a true staying test and she was about to work her way through the field coming over the top of the tearaway leader to win in scintillating fashion. She broke 12 seconds for her final 200m and was by far the best closer of the race. She looks ideally placed and that run will bring her on nicely for 2400m.

8. Kia Ora Koutou: Winner of the JRA Trophy over 2200m at Listed level. He sat outside the leader and was able to pull away late. A good staying effort but had all favours and looks to have been ‘over bet’ in early markets.

11. Star Exhibit: Narrowly beaten by Kia Ora Koutou in the JRA Trophy, Star Exhibit backed up two weeks later in the ATA Stakes and was able to come from last for an impressive victory. I don’t see much between him and the favourite but I believe Star Exhibit will get the better run in transit with tearaway tactics predicted again by Fathoms Of Gold.
