BBL07: Semi Final 1 – Perth Scorchers v Hobart Hurricanes

PERTH SCORCHERS v HOBART HURRICANES

Thursday 1st February 7:40pm Perth Stadium AEDST

Match Overview

Defending champions Perth Scorchers will be looking to take a step closer to an incredible fourth title by overcoming surprise packets the Hobart Hurricanes at Perth Stadium on Thursday.

Perth Scorchers

The Scorchers ensured they would finish top of the ladder for the second consecutive season by conquering the Adelaide Strikers at the WACA last Thursday. After winning the toss and sending the Strikers into bat, Perth’s highly-rated bowling attack quickly got to work as they restricted Adelaide to just 6/137 off their 20 overs with Jhye Richardson (2/23 off four overs) exuding the confidence gained from his time in the Australian set-up. However when the Scorchers slumped to 4/28 in reply, it looked as if it would be the Strikers who would claim top spot, until Cameron Bancroft (49 off 39 balls) and captain Adam Voges (56 not out 45 balls) rescued the situation, steering Perth to a four-wicket victory with just three balls to spare.

Hobart Hurricanes

The Hurricanes snuck into fourth spot despite failing to defend 7/185 against the lowly Melbourne Stars on Saturday. 56 off just 37 balls from seasoned all-rounder Dan Christian looked to have propelled Hobart to a match-winning total, however a particularly expensive outing from English quick Tymal Mills (2/56 off four overs) came back to bite the Hurricanes as they succumbed in the first ball of the final over. With the hosts boosted by further international reinforcements and Hobart missing likely player of the tournament D’Arcy Short, I fancy the Scorchers to send the ball flying over the fence at a more frequent rate than their unfancied opponents.

Key Stats

  • The Scorchers have hit more sixes than their opponents in five of their past seven finals matches.
  • D’Arcy Short has hit 39% of the Hurricanes’ sixes.
  • The Scorchers have won their last six matches against the Hurricanes.

Betting Strategy

BACK – Perth Scorchers Most Sixes at 1.83 or better for 2 units.
