BBL07: Game 9 – Sydney Sixers v Adelaide Strikers

Sydney Sixers v Adelaide Strikers

Thursday December 28 — 7:10pm AEST

After dropping their first two games the Sydney Sixers will be desperate to open their account against the Adelaide Strikers at the SCG on Thursday night.

Sydney Sixers

After beginning their campaign with a last-ball derby defeat to the Thunder, the Sixers were then overturned by the Perth Scorchers at the SCG on Saturday. Batting first, Nic Maddinson (31 off 33 balls) was the only Sydney batsmen who threatened to get going as they were bowled out for a disappointing 132. A handful of early wickets to Sean Abbott (3/28 off 3.1 overs) gave the Sixers some hope, but ultimately the Scorchers cruised home by six wickets to consign the Magenta Men to successive defeats.

Adelaide Strikers

The Strikers enjoyed a more fruitful beginning to their title tilt, as Alex Carey (44 off 26 balls) and captain Travis Head (36 off 29 balls) catapulted them to a competitive 6/163 against the Thunder on Friday night. However it was in the field where Adelaide really made a mark, dismissing the Thunder for only 110 with veteran seamer Ben Laughlin picking up 4/26, while Rashid Khan and Peter Siddle both made encouraging debuts for the Strikers, claiming two wickets apiece. On paper not too much separates these sides, but keep an eye on Adelaide skipper Head who has been in great touch in this format and boasts an enviable record against the Sixers.
