BBL07: Game 5 – Sydney Sixers v Perth Scorchers

Sydney Sixers v Perth Scorchers

Saturday December 23 — 4:10pm AEST

Sydney Sixers

The Sixers marginally failed to defend a middling total of 9/149 against the Thunder in the tournament opener, with their city rivals sneaking home on the last ball despite the best efforts of debutant Daniel Sams who captured an exceptional 4/14 off four overs. Earlier none of the Sixers’ batsmen could push on to a big score with Daniel Hughes (29 off 27 balls), Nic Maddinson (31 off 21 balls) and Sam Billings (32 off 21 balls) all perishing after promising starts. However what will really concern the Magenta Men was the relative ineffectiveness of spinners Steve O’Keefe and Johan Botha who combined for 1/61 off eight overs on a pitch that the Thunder’s slow-bowlers excelled on.

Perth Scorchers

Perth’s chances of defending their crown will largely rest on their illustrious bowling attack which will boast Mitchell Johnson, Andrew Tye and David Willey in addition to Jason Behrendorff and Nathan Coulter-Nile if the latter two are passed fit. On the flipside the Scorchers’ batting looks a tad light with Cameron Bancroft and the Marsh brothers on international duty, while a personal matter has put Michael Klinger in doubt. The safest angle here seems to be to side with Perth’s formidable attack, given their extended and profound record of success in this competition.

Key Stats

  • The Scorchers have kept the opposition to a score of under 150 in eight of their past nine matches.
  • The Scorchers have won seven of their last nine matches when bowling first.
  • The Sixers have won only one of their past eight matches against the Scorchers.

Betting Strategy

BACK – Perth Scorchers if they bowl first at 2.05 or better for 1 unit (if Scorchers bat first, back them at the innings break)
