BBL07: Game 4 – Adelaide Strikers v Sydney Thunder

Adelaide Strikers v Sydney Thunder

Friday December 22 — 7:40pm AEST

Adelaide Strikers

After topping the table in both BBL04 and BBL05, the Strikers fell away badly last season to finish sixth and miss out on a semi-final spot. In order to remedy that, they have made two key overseas signings in Afghani leg-spinner Rashid Khan and South African top-order batsman Colin Ingram, in addition to the acquisition of veteran seamer Peter Siddle. However the concern for Adelaide is they have little depth beyond their best XI, making them over-reliant on young players such as Jake Weatherald, Alex Carey, Jake Lehmann and Billy Stanlake who are all relatively inexperienced in this format.

Sydney Thunder

The Thunder got their season off to a winning start with a narrow last-ball victory over city rivals the Sydney Sixers. Captain Shane Watson lead from the front with a typically savage 77 off 46 balls, while spinners Fawad Ahmed (2/11 off four overs) and Arjun Nair (2/29 off four overs) starred with the ball. The Thunder will also be boosted by the likely addition of new signing Callum Ferguson who sat out the season opener with a quad injury and given the way in which they acquitted themselves on Tuesday night, they look a big price here.

Key Stats

  • The Strikers have only won two of their past five games at the Adelaide Oval.
  • The Strikers have also never beaten the Thunder at the Adelaide Oval.
  • The Thunder have won their last three matches when starting as underdogs.
