BBL07: Game 39 – Melbourne Stars v Hobart Hurricanes

Saturday 27th January 4:10pm MCG AEDST

 Match Overview

After a forgettable season, the Melbourne Stars will hope to salvage something from their last match against likely semi-finalists Hobart Hurricanes at the MCG on Saturday.

Melbourne Stars

The Stars found a different way to lose against the Sydney Sixers, sinking to their eighth defeat of a torrid campaign. After being sent into bat the Stars found themselves in a familiar position early at 2/18, however a stunning riposte from the freakish Glenn Maxwell who clobbered 84 off only 47 balls lifted Melbourne to 5/189, the equal third-highest total in this season’s tournament. However the Sixers approached the target without fear and incredibly mowed it down in just 17.3 overs with young Stars spinner Liam Bowe punished with ruthless effect, as his two overs went for a whopping 36.

Hobart Hurricanes

In their last start the Hurricanes were subdued by the Perth Scorchers, ensuring that they needed a win here to secure a top four spot. A dazzling blitzkrieg from Simon Milenko (66 not out off 37 balls) guided Hobart to 5/167, however the Scorchers ran down the target in the last over for the loss of five wickets despite a tight spell from English left-arm quick Tymal Mills (1/25 off four overs). With talented players such as Darcy Short and Maxwell in phenomenal form it wouldn’t surprise me to see one of the batsmen get to triple figures in this fixture.
