BBL07: Game 35 – Melbourne Renegades V Adelaide Strikers

MELBOURNE RENEGADES v ADELAIDE STRIKERS

Monday 22nd January 7:40pm ADST

Match Overview

With their place in the semi-finals suddenly under threat the Melbourne Renegades will be hoping to take care of the high-flying Adelaide Strikers at Docklands Stadium on Monday.

Melbourne Renegades

The Renegades succumbed to their second straight defeat when they were conquered by city rivals the Melbourne Stars last Friday. After winning the toss and electing to field, the Renegades may soon have been regretting their decision as the Stars raced to 1/109 off 12 overs, before the intervention of off-spinner Mohammad Nabi (2/15 off four overs) managed to keep them to a more manageable 4/167. However without ODI representatives Aaron Finch and Cameron White as well as the injured Brad Hodge, the Renegades stumbled with the bat as they could only make their way to 9/144 thanks to some late hitting from Nabi (23 off 17 balls) and Jack Wildermuth (23 off 11 balls).

Adelaide Strikers

The Strikers had no such issues with their batting as the second-highest partnership in the history of the BBL between the outstanding Alex Carey (100 off 56 balls) and a regenerated Jake Weatherald (65 off 52 balls) lifted them to a colossal 4/187 against the Hobart Hurricanes on Wednesday night. Although Adelaide received a scare when leg-spinner Rashid Khan (0/35 off four overs) went wicketless for the first time in the tournament, some tight bowling at the death from Peter Siddle (1/18 off three overs) secured the Strikers an 11-run victory. Following their record stand, I’m backing the Adelaide openers to get the better of their counterparts again here.

Key Stats

  • The Renegades opening partnership has passed 20 just once in seven matches this season.
  • The Strikers have conceded more than 20 to the opposition opening partnership in only three of eight matches this season.
  • The side batting first has won all six clashes between the Renegades and Strikers.

Betting Strategy

BACK – Adelaide Strikers Highest Opening Partnership at 1.83 or bigger for 1 unit.
