BBL07: Game 34 – Perth Scorchers v Hobart Hurricanes

Perth Scorchers v Hobart Hurricanes

Saturday 20th January 9:20pm ADST

Match Overview

With their record five-match winning streak terminated, the Hobart Hurricanes now face the tough task of travelling to “The Furnace” to face defending champions Perth Scorchers on Saturday night.

Perth Scorchers

The Scorchers will be well rested with their last match a week ago in which they breezed past table-toppers Adelaide Strikers at Alice Spring’s Traeger Park. Despite losing Andrew Tye and Jhye Richardson to the Australian ODI squad, Perth’s prolific bowling unit were outstanding as they knocked over the Strikers for just 112 with Ashton Agar the pick of the bunch with 3/19 off his four overs. In reply the Scorchers lost both openers within the powerplay as they stammered to 2/26, however an unbeaten stand between Hilton Cartwright (47 off 44 balls) and Agar (26 off 29 balls) ensured that they comfortably ran down the target with six wickets in the sheds and ten balls to spare.

Hobart Hurricanes

For the Hurricanes their winning streak came to an abrupt end after they conceded a substantial 4/187 to the Strikers with Jofra Archer’s spell of 3/27 off four overs the sole highlight within an otherwise dismal bowling display. A mid-innings assault from Alex Doolan (70 not out off 55 balls) and Ben McDermott (45 off 29 balls) gave Hobart a glimmer of hope, however ultimately the target proved 11 runs too many. Despite showing impressive fight in the second innings in Adelaide, the Hurricanes face the unenviable assignment of tackling the Scorchers in Perth where they have such an impressive record, so at the current prices I’m leaning towards the hosts in this one.

Key Stats

  • The Scorchers have won nine out of their past 11 matches.
  • The Scorchers have won nine of their past 12 matches at the WACA including their last five straight.
  • The Hurricanes have lost their last five matches against the Scorchers.
