BBL07: Game 31 – Adelaide Strikers v Hobart Hurricanes

Wednesday 17th January 7:40pm ADST

Match Overview

Two sides at the pointy end of the table will do battle on Wednesday night when the second-placed Adelaide Strikers host the third-placed Hobart Hurricanes.

Adelaide Strikers

The Strikers missed a chance to go top of the table when they were comfortably beaten by the Perth Scorchers in Alice Springs on Saturday. Despite a good start from opener Alex Carey (44 off 32 balls), the Adelaide batsmen failed to adjust to the sluggish pitch, attempting to score far too quickly in the conditions which only resulted in them slumping from 2/79 to 112 all out. Two early wickets to Michael Neser (2/18 off 3.32 overs) gave the Strikers some hope, but ultimately the Scorchers cruised home with six wickets in hand and ten balls remaining.

Hobart Hurricanes

Meanwhile the Hurricanes coasted to a club-record fifth-straight win after restricting the Brisbane Heat to 8/165 thanks largely to tight bowling from spin trio Cameron Boyce, Clive Rose and Darcy Short who combined for 3/78 off 10 overs. Short then continued his breathtaking form with the bat, leading the chase with 59 off 49 balls, before Ben McDermott (32 not out off 19 balls) applied the finishing touches to see Hobart leapfrog Brisbane and catapult into the top four with a six-wicket win. Although they are on a hot streak, I am concerned that the Hurricanes’ overreliance on Short will be exposed against this quality Strikers attack and therefore think the hosts look on the larger side here.

Key Stats

  • The Strikers have won five out of their past six matches at the Adelaide Oval.
  • The Strikers have won four of their past six matches against the Hurricanes.
  • D’Arcy Short has scored 40% of the Hurricanes’ runs this season.

Betting Strategy

BACK Adelaide Strikers at 1.80 or better for 2 units.
