BBL07: Game 30 – Melbourne Stars v Sydney Sixers

MELBOURNE STARS v SYDNEY SIXERS

Tuesday 16th January 7:40pm ADST

Match Overview

After each side finally recorded their first win of the tournament, the Melbourne Stars and Sydney Sixers will both be looking to make it two when they clash at the MCG on Tuesday.

Melbourne Stars

The Stars belated first two points came in convincing fashion against derby rivals the Melbourne Renegades. After being sent in to bat, a wonderfully stylish 74 off 46 from Kevin Pietersen, backed up by a flourishing finish from discarded international Glenn Maxwell (31 not out off 16 balls) saw the Stars reach 4/167 from their 20 overs. In reply an excellent opening spell from young quick Jackson Coleman (3/27 off four overs) ensured that the Renegades never looked capable of mowing down the sizeable target, with the Stars running out winners by 23 runs.

Sydney Sixers

Things got a bit tighter for the Sixers, despite an excellent start in which they restricted the Sydney Thunder to 6/156, highlighted by two wickets to the returning Moises Henriques (2/25 off three overs). Although they looked comfortable for the majority of the chase, especially after new import Joe Denly (43 off 29 balls) provided a brisk start, it took the Sixers until the final ball of the match to get home despite losing only two wickets, with Daniel Hughes (66 not out off 55 balls) breathing a huge sigh of relief. Although they had the wider margin of victory against a superior opponent, I’m not convinced the Stars have turned the corner just yet so I would argue they’re not deserving of such a short price, however it is hard to place complete faith in the Sixers at this stage.

Key Stats

  • The Stars have lost five of their past six matches at home.
  • The Stars have lost their last four matches when they have started as favourites.
  • The Sixers have won only one of their last five matches against the Stars.

Betting Strategy

LAY-to-BACK Melbourne Stars at 1.74 or better for 1 unit (trade out at 2.25 or bigger).
