BBL07: Game 29 – Hobart Hurricanes v Brisbane Heat

HOBART HURRICANES v BRISBANE HEAT

Monday 15th January 7:40pm AEDST

Match Overview

After a pulsating and controversial clash at the Gabba last Wednesday, the Hobart Hurricanes and Brisbane Heat face off again on Monday night at Bellerive Oval.

Hobart Hurricanes

It was the Hurricanes who got the chocolates in Brisbane by the narrow margin of three runs to make it four wins on the trot. This victory followed a similar pattern to their past three, batting first and posting a hefty total of 4/179 off the back of a monumental innings from opener Darcy Short who finally broke through for his maiden T20 century, smashing 122 off 69 balls. In a topsy-turvy chase, it was the Hobart spinners who took control in the middle overs with Cameron Boyce claiming 2/23 off four overs, before veteran all-rounder Dan Christian closed out the match by narrowly defending 12 off the final over.

Brisbane Heat

The Heat will be bitterly disappointed to drop their first game at home this season, although their bowlers can have little complaint after a wasteful effort in the field that was illustrated by top wicket-taker Mark Steketee leaking 51 off his four overs. Elevated to open in place of the injured Chris Lynn, dynamic left-hander Sam Heazlett got the chase off to a rapid start with 45 off 33 balls, while a last gasp 26 off 13 deliveries from Jimmy Peirson nearly saw Brisbane sneak over the line, but the contentious dismissal of Alex Ross, out obstructing the field, cost them dearly as they fell agonizingly short. Antagonised by the Ross decision and with fellow “Bash Brother” Lynn still absent, there is plenty of motivation for Heat skipper Brendon McCullum to have a big match here and I expect to see him rise to the occasion.

Key Stats

  • Since the start of BBL06 Brendon McCullum has averaged 36.71 at an average of 160.12 for the Heat.
  • Against the Hurricanes, McCullum has averaged 52.50 at a strike-rate of 184.21.
  • The Hurricanes have won only two of their past six games at home.

Betting Strategy

BACK Brendon McCullum top Brisbane Heat batsman at 3.50 or bigger for 1 unit.
