BBL07: Game 27 – Adelaide Strikers v Perth Scorchers

Adelaide Strikers v Perth Scorchers

Saturday January 13 – 4:00pm ADST

The BBL heads north to Alice Springs where Traeger Park will host a blockbuster between semi-final aspirants Adelaide Strikers and Perth Scorchers.

Adelaide Strikers

The Strikers joined the Scorchers on five wins when they brushed aside the Melbourne Stars at home on Tuesday. Once again Adelaide showed their variety and discipline in the field with every bowler capturing one wicket and Peter Siddle the only to concede more than eight an over as they restricted the Stars to a mediocre 6/151. In reply ‘keeper-batsman Alex Carey maintained his excellent form with an unbeaten 59 off 52 balls, while captain Travis Head murdered 53 off just 32 balls to see the Strikers home after 18.2 overs with eight wickets in hand.

Perth Scorchers

On Thursday the Scorchers slumped to their second defeat of BBL07, edged out by the Sydney Thunder who made 4/175 batting first despite an impressive debut from Perth quick Matt Kelly (1/32 off eight overs). At 4/35 shortly after the powerplay it looked as if the Scorchers were well out of the hunt, but an incredible 137-run partnership off 82 deliveries between Cameron Bancroft (75 not out off 56 balls) and Hilton Cartwright (65 not out off 41 balls) dragged Perth to within reach of a remarkable victory, before they fell short by an agonising three runs. After such a stunning comeback I am loathe to take on the defending champions here, however they are proven slow starters so I will look to be with Adelaide in the first six overs.
