BBL07: Game 22 – Perth Scorchers v Melbourne Renegades

Perth Scorchers v Melbourne Renegades

Monday January 8 — 9:20pm ADST

Top spot on the BBL07 ladder will be up for grabs when the Melbourne Renegades travel west to face defending champions Perth Scorchers at the WACA on Monday.

Perth Scorchers

The Scorchers suffered their first defeat of the competition on Friday when they were overrun by the Brisbane Heat at the Gabba. The Scorchers sorely missed rested spearhead Mitchell Johnson as the Heat racked up 6/191 batting first which was typified by an uncharacteristic performance from leading wicket-taker Andrew Tye (1/47 off four overs). Perth never really looked capable of chasing down the sizeable target, with some late hitting from Ashton Agar (31 off 18 balls) a rare highlight as they were bundled out for 142.

Melbourne Renegades

The Renegades had no such problems as they made it four wins from five with victory over city rivals the Melbourne Stars who they restricted to 4/157 thanks to an all-round disciplined bowling effort. Captain Aaron Finch got the chase off to a fast start with a belligerent 43 off 22 balls, before Afghani all-rounder Mohammad Nabi made the most of a promotion to number four with an entertaining 52 off 30 deliveries to see the Renegades home with 13 balls remaining. Whilst I couldn’t totally oppose the in-form Renegades here, I’m willing to have a significant investment on the Scorchers trading shorter than starting price at home.

Key Stats

  • The Scorchers have won six of their past eight games at home.
  • The Scorchers have never lost against the Renegades.
  • The Renegades have won six of their past seven matches.

Betting Strategy

BACK-to-LAY Perth Scorchers at 2.20 or bigger (trade out at 1.75 or better) for 3 units.
