BBL07: Game 21 – Hobart Hurricanes v Sydney Sixers

Hobart Hurricanes v Sydney Sixers

Monday January 8 — 6:10pm ADST

Fresh from consecutive wins, the Hobart Hurricanes will be looking to pour more misery on the winless Sydney Sixers at Bellerive Oval on Monday.

Hobart Hurricanes

The Hurricanes notched their second successive win by edging out the Adelaide Strikers at Bellerive last Thursday. Winning the toss and electing to bat first, opener D’arcy Short continued his electrifying form by clobbering 96 off 58 deliveries as Hobart raced to 5/183 from their 20 overs against the previously parsimonious Strikers attack. In a topsy-turvy chase it was English seamer Jofra Archer who proved the difference, claiming 3/15 off four overs and restricting Adelaide to just five off the final over to secure a tense seven-run victory.

Sydney Sixers

Meanwhile the Sixers experienced their most painful defeat yet, trounced by the Melbourne Renegades after only managing a pitiful 8/111 batting first which was boosted by an unbeaten 32 off 23 balls from stand-in captain Johan Botha. The Renegades cruised to the target for the loss of only two wickets and with a whopping 27 balls remaining, consigning the Sixers to their fifth straight defeat in BBL07, making it six losses on the bounce overall. I expect to see an improved performance from the Magenta Men, however it is difficult to see them matching the Hurricanes at the start of the innings.
