BBL07: Game 20 – Sydney Thunder v Adelaide Strikers

Sydney Thunder v Adelaide Strikers

Sunday January 7 — 7:10pm AEST

After suffering their first loss of the season, the Adelaide Strikers will be looking to bounce back swiftly by overcoming the Sydney Thunder at Spotless Stadium on Sunday.

Sydney Thunder

The Thunder continued their stop-start pattern in BBL07 when they went down to the Hobart Hurricanes at home by just nine runs. A tight spell from leg-spinner Fawad Ahmed (1/27 off four overs) was not enough to prevent the Hurricanes amassing a considerable 3/189 in their 20 overs, with Gurinder Sandhu conceding 48 off his final three overs, having started with a wicket-maiden. The Thunder’s chase was underpinned by a sensational knock of 81 from just 43 balls by English ‘keeper-batsman Jos Buttler, however his dismissal in the final over ended Sydney’s hopes as they finished up on 8/180.

Adelaide Strikers

Adelaide’s most recent match was eerily similar as they finished seven runs shy of chasing down Hobart’s total of 5/183 which was compiled despite an excellent spell from the Strikers’ own leggie Rashid Khan (2/18 off four overs). A partnership of 102 off 64 balls between captain Travis Head (44 off 32 balls) and South African import Colin Ingram (66 off 44 balls) threatened to steal the match for the Strikers, but ultimately they pulled up just short of making it four wins on the trot. With a superior bowling attack plus Head and Ingram now firing, I expect to see Adelaide clear the ropes more often than their opponents in this one.
