BBL07: Game 19 – Melbourne Stars v Melbourne Renegades

Melbourne Stars v Melbourne Renegades

Saturday January 6 — 7:10pm AEST

Desperate to record their first victory, the Melbourne Stars will be hoping they can rise to the occasion in the twelfth Melbourne Derby against the Renegades at the MCG on Saturday night.

Melbourne Stars

The Stars crashed to their third consecutive loss when they were annihilated by the Brisbane Heat at home on Tuesday night. Melbourne’s highly-rated batting line-up never got going as they stammered to a below-par 7/141 in 20 overs with Glenn Maxwell (50 off 39 balls) providing a rare highlight. As poor as their batsmen were, their bowlers were not much better as the Heat waltzed to the target inside 15 overs whilst losing just the one wicket which fell to promising spinner Liam Bowe (1/21 off two overs).

Melbourne Hurricanes

In contrast the Renegades are flying, as they secured their third win in four games by firstly restricting the Sydney Sixers to a miserly 8/111 with West Indian all-rounder Dwayne Bravo picking up 3/29 from his four overs. When opener Marcus Harris departed in the first over of the chase there may have been some nerves but captain Aaron Finch steadied the ship with 51 off 38 balls, combining with the ever-reliable Cameron White (49 not out off 44 balls) to see the Renegades home with eight wickets in hand and 27 balls to spare. Given their poor record in the derby, I can’t be backing the Renegades here but look for Finch to fire again now that he has found some form.

Key Stats

  • Aaron Finch has top-scored in four of his past eight matches for the Renegades.
  • Aaron Finch also averages 58.29 at a strike-rate of 145.71 against the Stars.
  • The Stars have won seven of their past eight matches against the Renegades.

Betting Strategy

BACK – Aaron Finch Top Melbourne Renegades Batsman at 3.75 or bigger for 1 unit.
