BBL07: Game 18 – Brisbane Heat v Perth Scorchers

Brisbane Heat v Perth Scorchers

Friday January 5 — 7:10pm AEST

Having brushed aside the Melbourne Stars, the Brisbane Heat will now turn their attention to the undefeated Perth Scorchers in their clash at the Gabba on Friday night.

Brisbane Heat

Brisbane put in one of the most dominant performances of BBL07 thus far when they thumped the Stars by nine wickets at the MCG. After winning the toss and electing to field, young leg-spinner Mitch Swepson enjoyed a stunning return to form by claiming 3/14 off four overs as Melbourne’s high-profile batting line-up were held to 7/141 from their 20 overs. The Heat then turned things up a notch by elevating Chris Lynn (63 not out off 46 balls) to open with fellow “Bash Brother” Brendon McCullum (61 off 30 balls) and the pair made light work of the target as the Heat romped home with 32 balls remaining.

Perth Scorchers

The night before, the Scorchers made it four wins from as many starts despite their top-class bowling attack giving up an uncharacteristically high score of 4/167 with Jhye Richardson proving particularly expensive (0/45 off four overs). This time it was the Perth batsmen who stood tall with the prolific Michael Klinger stroking a match-winning 83 off 61 balls, while youngster Ashton Turner provided a crucial 45 off 32 balls. The Scorchers have won three of their four matches as distinct outsiders and there’s no reason why they can’t repeat the dose here.

Key Stats

  • The Heat have won only three out of eight matches against the Scorchers.
  • The Scorchers have won their last seven matches.
  • The Heat have won only two of their past six matches at the Gabba.
