BBL07: Game 16 – Melbourne Renegades v Sydney Sixers

Melbourne Renegades v Sydney Sixers

Wednesday January 3 — 7:10pm AEST

Winless after four matches, the Sydney Sixers face a tough task to get off the mark by travelling to Geelong to take on the highly-fancied Melbourne Renegades.

Melbourne Renegades

The Renegades impressive start to the season took a hit when they were edged out by the Perth Scorchers last Friday. Batting first, the Renegades had no answers to the Scorchers’ high-quality bowling attack as they could only muster 9/130 from their 20 overs with Marcus Harris (32 off 25 balls) and Tom Cooper (34 off 24 balls) the only batsmen to make any impression. Perth looked like they were cruising to the total at 2/90 but veteran spinner Brad Hogg (2/16 off four overs) triggered a collapse of 5/35, before the Scorchers kept their nerve to prevail with one over remaining.

Sydney Sixers

The Sixers last match also involved a close loss to the Scorchers, however the Magenta Men got off to a much better start as an unbeaten 45 off 33 balls from the in-form Jordan Silk led them to an imposing 4/167. However the Sixers failed to close out the match as Perth got home in the last over despite the best efforts of left-arm seamer Daniel Sams (2/25 off three overs). Whilst they are none from four, it shouldn’t be forgotten that the Sixers came within a whisker of knocking over the tournament front-runners in their own backyard, so while I can’t have complete confidence that they win here, I do believe that Sydney can trade significantly shorter.

Key Stats

  • The Renegades have lost their last four matches against the Sixers.
  • The Renegades have won only one of their last five matches at home.
  • The Sixers have won four out of their last six matches as underdogs.

Betting Strategy

BACK-to-LAY Sydney Sixers at 2.56 or bigger for 2 units (trade out at 1.80 or better)
