EXPERT TIPS: SYDNEY SIXERS VS BRISBANE HEAT BBL FINAL

The Final – Sydney Sixers vs Brisbane Heat

Can the Sydney Sixers claim a fourth title or will the Brisbane Heat lift the trophy for the first time since 2013? We’ll find out on Wednesday night when the two teams face off at the SCG in what promises to be an engrossing final. The Sixers won straight through to the decider when they outsmarted the Heat in Friday’s Qualifier, prevailing by 39 runs with a game-changing partnership between opener Daniel Hughes (42 off 33 balls) and captain Moises Henriques (59 off 50 balls) lifting the Magenta Men to a competitive 8/152 before their bowlers squeezed the life out of Brisbane’s short-handed batting unit, rolling them for 113 on a tricky Carrara surface with left-arm seamer Ben Dwarshuis picking up 5/21 off 3.5 overs.

Brisbane then bounced back in style on Monday night with a crushing win over the Adelaide Strikers in the Challenger as talented opener Josh Brown played an otherworldly knock, bludgeoning 140 off just 57 balls including a record 12 sixes to a catapult the Queenslanders to 7/214, a total they were never in any serious danger of failing to defend as express quick Spencer Johnson ripped through the Strikers top-order to finish with figures of 3/20 off four overs as Adelaide were bowled out for 160.

Betting Strategy

The market is edging towards the hosts in this one, installing the Sixers as narrow jollies ahead of the Heat who very nearly knocked over the Scorchers in Perth to claim last year’s title. We can expect another slow, low surface at the SCG which should suit both bowling attacks which rely heavily on spin as well as pace bowlers who provide plenty of variety, however it was notable that in Brisbane’s rousing Challenger victory that only one batsman other than Brown reached double figures and hence it is clear that Sydney boast more depth and nous with bat in hand which has me favouring the home side for a third title in six seasons.

TOURNAMENT OVERVIEW

The twelfth edition of the BBL promises to be one of the most keenly-contested yet with a couple of key changes set to increase the standard of cricket on what we have seen in recent seasons’. Firstly Covid protocols seem unlikely to strip teams bare of a number of players as we saw in BBL11, but most significantly Australian representatives will be able to compete in a high proportion of matches with no international limited overs matches scheduled during the tournament. That may be slightly offset by a number of imports leaving the competition early to compete in rival leagues, but domestic players still hold the key with the Perth Scorchers looking to go back-to-back for the second time in their history, while at the other end of the spectrum the Melbourne Renegades will be desperate to avoid a fourth consecutive wooden spoon.

When you place a lay bet, you are betting on something not to happen. Let’s think about the Melbourne Cup again. Remember: there can only be one winner. But what about the others trailing behind them? If you place a lay bet in a “Win” market, you can celebrate if the runner tails off at the back of the field.

BBL 14 Tips | 2024/25 Season

The Big Bash League (BBL) is an exciting and colourful men’s cricket competition played annually during the Australian summer. The teams-based competition uses the T20 format, with each team batting for 20 overs. The short-form games, which are completed in around three hours, are known for their heavy hitting and outlandish shot-making. Betfair is the only betting agency to follow for the best and most accurate information and data, including Big Bash tips, on the BBL competition. As Australia’s largest betting exchange, Betfair is the leader when it comes to offering punters statistical analysis and observations that can help identify value-for-money considerations, including BBL tips and the best back and lay bets for various categories in each game.

The first edition of the BBL competition, which is run by Cricket Australia, was played in the 2005-06 summer. The six original participants were based on the traditional Australian state representative teams: Victorian Bushrangers, New South Wales Blues, Southern Redbacks, Tasmanian Tigers, Western Warriors, and Queensland Bulls. The competition underwent significant change after the 2010-11 season, with the state-based teams replaced by eight ‘franchises’ representing Australian cities: Adelaide Strikers, Brisbane Heat, Hobart Hurricanes, Melbourne Renegades, Melbourne Stars, Perth Scorchers, Sydney Sixers, and Sydney Thunder. Teams can sign players from around the country as well as limited number of international players. They play each other twice in the group stage of the competition (56 games) before a five-game finals series is held to determine the champions.

On top of the Big Bash tips it offers, Betfair provides punters with an extensive range of betting categories for each BBL game. They can choose the normally attractive odds on whether a game will end in a tie. They also can focus on individual players and wager on which will finish the game with the most runs. And they can also dabble in the various ‘over’ categories, wagering on how many runs will be scored in a particular over or a sector of overs in a 20-over inning.

T20 cricket attracts specialist players including the likes of Melbourne Stars captain Glenn Maxwell, who during the 2021/22 season smashed an incredible 154 runs not out from just 64 balls against the Hobart Hurricanes. Maxwell’s knock, the highest individual score in BBL history, helped the Stars post a total of 273, also a BBL record. The Stars’ total included 29 four and 10 sixes.
