Brisbane Roar v Wellington Phoenix

Sunday April 16, 5:00pm AEST

Match Overview

Late in the final round there is a worry about teams having not much to play for.

Brisbane are all but confirmed in the top-4, only a large loss here coupled with a big win for Perth could see them miss out on a home final. They performed well on Wednesday night in the ACL providing themselves with a life-line to qualify for the knockout phase. They fielded close to a best 11 and with another ACL match between Weeks 1 and 2 of the finals series they may be tempted to rest some players in this match.

Wellington are officially out of the playoff race but have been reasonably good late in the season. Striker Shane Smeltz has departed for Indonesia and it they will likely have a let-down form their strong home 1-1 draw v Sydney FC.

Statistics Comment

Not much between these teams based on the last six rounds

Betting Strategy

Not a game to be betting big into but I suggest backing the Nix at the value.

BACK – Wellington at 4.5+ for 1 unit

Sydney FC v Newcastle Jets

Saturday April 15, 5:35pm AEST

Match Overview

Sydney had to settle for a 1-1 draw in Wellington and may have been lucky to get that. However, they were without Brilliante, O’Neill and Ninkovic, all of whom I expect to return on Friday night.
They will be presented with the Premiers Plate after the final whistle and will certainly be wanting to celebrate the occasion.

Newcastle need a miracle now to avoid the wooden spoon after picking up just 2 points from their previous nine matches. They are on tilt and looking for the off season.
