Tulloch Stakes Betting Odds

The Tulloch Stakes is a Group 2 race for three-year-old colts & geldings held each year in April at Rosehill racecourse in Sydney, New South Wales. The long, flat course is suitable for both sprint and distance races. However it does have some quirks which forge its reputation as a specialists track. The race is run over a distance of 2000 meters under set weight conditions, and is worth $140,000 in prize money.

New Zealand colt Harris Tweed won the Tulloch Stakes in 2009, Book of Kells in 2008, Tipungwuti in 2007, and Manto in 2006.

The Tulloch Stakes is held one week before the Gr1 AJC Australian Derby (2400m) at Randwick, and gives three-year-old colts & geldings a final hit out at 2000m in preparation for the extra 400 meters of the Derby the following week.

The race tends to attract more than handy types rather than superstars and horses such as Ivory'sIrish (1995), Mahogany (1994), and Durbridge (1991) were successful in this race before going on to win the Derby.

Among the most famous trainers involved with Tulloch Stakes are the father and son pair of Murray and Bjorn Baker, and those among the individual trainers are Mark Kavanagh, Peter Snowden, Sargent and Jack Denham.
