The race is held every year in April on the grass course at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse in Sydney. This year the sponsor changed to Vinery Stud, so the race is referred to as the Vinery Stud Storm Queen Stakes, and ran on April 4, 2009. The race winner was a horse named Purple ridden by the successful young jockey Kerrin McEvoy for the Al Quoz Stables, UAE. Kerrin McEvoy and Purple worked with trainer Peter Snowden to win the world's richest two-year-old race: the Storm Queen Stakes.
