Queensland Oaks Betting Odds

Eagle Farm Racecourse in Brisbane hosts the group 1 Queensland Oaks Thoroughbred horserace during the Brisbane Winter Carnival in June. It is a set weight race for 3 year old fillies that is an endurance run of 2400 meters for prize winnings of AUD 400,000.

The 2008 Queensland Oaks was won by a filly from Melbourne named Riva San who came up from the back of the pack to win over the leader Rathsallagh by a neck. Heavenly Glow, who followed Riva San up from the rear of the field, won third place.

Jockey Scott Seamer rode Riva San to the victory at Eagle Farm, although he was a substitute for Luke Nolen who was injured in a fall at Doomben just two weeks before the race. Trainer Peter Moody has had a long history with Scott Seamer and was quoted as saying "I can always call on Scott when I need him and he'll travel anywhere to ride for me."

This is Scott Seamer's twenty first group 1 win, and there still remains the possibility of Seamer running Riva San in the Caulfield-Melbourne Cups double, which he had previously won in 2001 on a horse named Ethereal together with trainer Peter Moody. Riva San is a strong contender, but performance through the year remains to be seen.
