The record was created in 2001 with a timing of 1-08.1 by Century Kid of New Zealand. In 1996, the race was held for 1300m and the event was held a week earlier than usual. In 2004, Falkrik of New Zealand which came in second protested against Patpong being in first place. The protest was upheld and Falkrik was declared the winner. The past winners include Chinchilla Rose in 2008, Nova star in 2007, Messiaen in 2006, Sir Breakfast in 2005, Into the Night in 2003, and Pembleton in 2002.
