Matron Stakes at Belmont Betting Odds

The Matron Stakes is held every year in the second week of September at Belmont Park in Elmont, Long Island, New York. The race is run on a dirt track for the distance of 7 furlongs, which is equal to 7/8 mile, 1540 yards or 4620 feet. This is a horse race for 2 year old fillies and has often been referred to as the preparation running for the Belmont Futurity Stakes in mid September.

The Matron Stakes was first run in 1892 at a distance of 6 furlongs and has run nearly every year since that time, at various distances, but is currently set at 7 furlongs. It originally ran on a straight track, but was changed to the standard left handed circular horse track after the 1958 running.

The $250,000 purse was won in 2008 by the horse Doremifasollatido, who is owned by the Miller family of M and M Thoroughbreds from Far Hills, New Jersey, and ridden by jockey Eibar Coa. The 2 year old thoroughbred, Doremifasollatido, was trained by James A. Jerkens, who has quite a few wins under his belt; including 2 Breeder's Cup wins.

The classification by the American Graded Stakes Committee of the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association is Grade II because the purse is under $300,000.
