Makybe Diva Stakes Betting Odds

Until 2007, the Makybe Diva Stakes was known as the Craiglee Stakes, and still retains the Group 2 Set Weight and Penalty status. This thoroughbred race is run on a 1600 meter (1 mile) field at Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne, Australia and carries a prize purse of AUD $500,000. The Craiglee Stakes originated in 1948 and was an annual September race until it was renamed in 2007 for the phenomenal horse, Makybe Diva.

Makybe Diva is a Bay mare, born in 1999 and began racing in 2002. Her greatest claim to fame is being a 3 time winner of the Melborne Cup and the only horse in the history of the race ever to claim her 3rd victory in 2005. The Melborne Cup is the biggest and richest horse race in Australia, and is described as "The race that stops a nation" with a declared holiday for all of Melborne and Federal Public workers in the entire state of Victoria on the day of the race.

The 2008 winner of the Makybe Diva Stakes on September 6, 2009 was Weekend Hussler ridden by jockey Brad Rawiller with a time of 1:38.60, beating out 2nd place horse Zarita. In a ceremony just prior to the race, the Victoria Racing Club unveiled a statue of Makybe Diva at the Flemington Racecourse.
